Edward rManerva

Edward O. Hulsizer was born April 18, 1833 in Warren County, New Jersey. He was the eighth of eleven children borne to Joel and Margaret (Probasco) Hulsizer. Joel Hulsizer was quite a successful farmer in Warren County, NJ according to valuation records filed with census enumerations of the times. Edward married Manerva Brugler of Hainsburg, NJ on November 22, 1859. Three children were added to this family while they were still in New Jersey; John Probasco born in 1860, Anna Florence in 1862, and Ada Malvina in 1868. The Hulsizers left New Jersey and moved to Glendale, Montana around 1882 where Edward had an interest in mining, was postmaster for a time, and was proprietor of a restaurant and of the Stager Hotel.

John Hulsizer married Etta Rhodes Logan of Glendale on February 1, 1892. John operated saloons in Glendale and in Rochester before moving to Butte where he died in 1937. He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. Etta died in Butte in 1935 and is buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

John Ada

John eventually moved to Butte where he died in 1937 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte.

Ada married a fellow from Glendale who worked in the crushing house--his name was Abraham Lincoln Ryan. They moved to Butte after they were married in 1895.

Little is known of Manerva Hulsizer and when or where she died is not known at this time. In his later years, Edward Hulsizer took turns living with each of his three children. It is believed that Edward went back to New Jersey in his final years and likely is buried back there.

A special thank you to the descendants of the Hulsizer family for this information.
